St John's Church organ Project

Thursday's 8th January-12th February , 2:30 - 4:30pm

St John's Church Notting Hill, Lansdowne Crescent, London, England, W11 2NN

We are starting a unique project at St. John's Notting Hill called ‘AN ORGANic LIFE’. It is a 6 week programme designed to bring older people in the Notting Hill area together to learn about the historic organ at St. John's and use it as an opportunity to host some interest talks and activities based around prominent dates in the organ's history.

This will take place over 6 weeks with the first meet and greet session with tea/coffee on Thursday 8th Jan, 2.30pm, and every week at the same for the following 5 weeks. Each workshop will be 2 hours long and will focus on a key date in our organ's history, starting with when it was built and finishing with when it was recently restored. The five dates are:

1794,    1846,     1873-1945,    1960-2000,     2013-14

In each workshop we will look at: organ music led by a talented Organ Scholar, the history and development of Notting Hill and the surrounding area, led by a local historian, followed by arts & crafts, culture, horticulture and creative writing by us! The workshops will all include practical activities based on these themes.

The sessions are free of charge, as they are sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We have 20 spaces available for each workshop. I think it would be a great opportunity for The Chelsea Pensioners to participate and share their interests and contribute to the project.
